Scoping the potential for IB interventions to add value to non-food and dual purpose crops – a GCRF workshop - January 2017

The HVCfP Network was awarded additional BBSRC funding to organise a Global Challenges Research Fund workshop. This participatory discussion workshop explored the impact of industrial biotechnology on cash crops to understand the research needed to establish multipurpose crops which could promote economic development and welfare in sub-Saharan Africa.

Sharing nature’s genetic resources – implementing the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing - January 2017

This one day workshop considered the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol - an international agreement designed to share the benefits arising from the use of genetic resources fairly while protecting biodiversity and promoting conservation. Implementation of the Nagoya Protocol is directly relevant to many activities of HVCfP members – see https://www.cbd.int/abs/doc/protocol/factsheets/policy/ABSFactSheets-Biotech-web.pdf for an overview of how it relates to industrial biotechnology research. This workshop was aimed at those responsible for writing funding applications, managing research projects or commercialising the outputs from research using plants or plant derivatives and was supported by Regulatory Delivery, the competent authority for Access and Benefit Sharing in the UK and a number of expert contributors.

Open Innovation Event - May 2017

An open innovation event "Bringing natural products to market" was hosted by AlgaeCytes Ltd and funded by HVCfP.

Third Party Event – 14th International Symposium on Cytochrome P450 Biodiversity and Biotechnology - July 2018

The HVCfP Network sponsored a scientific session on plant P450s at the 14th International Symposium on Cytochrome P450 Biodiversity and Biotechnology. The Symposium continued a tradition of informal scientific discussions and lectures that has seen the community meet in Germany, Japan, U.S.A, France, Denmark, Wales, Italy and Canada, bringing together researchers and students from diverse disciplines who study cytochromes P450. This Symposium aimed to capture the excitement of new developments in P450 enzyme discovery and engineering for biotechnological applications, environmental assessment and remediation.
