HVB workshop: Engineering Biology for High Value Biorenewables
This workshop aims to address how engineering biology can be used to probe questions in fundamental biology and tackle industrial challenges within HVB scope. The Network is also keen to engage with UK Synthetic Biology Research Centres, bio-foundries, scale-up centres, industry, funding bodies and government departments as part of this event to explore ongoing developments, challenges and future prospects in this field.
The workshop will be held online on 26th (13:00-17:00) and 27th May 2021 (9:00-13:00) and the format will include presentations from invited speakers, a panel discussion and opportunities for HVB members to give short talks.
Day 1 sessions:
Technologies and research infrastructure for engineering biology
Application of AI, machine learning and chemoinformatics to engineering biology
Day 2 sessions:
Innovation and commercialisation through engineering biology
Panel discussion: Future directions for engineering biology. Confirmed panellists for the discussion are Lionel Clarke (Co-Chair of the Engineering Biology Leadership Council), Yvonne Armitage (CPI), Adriana Botes (VideraBio) and Rohan Kemp (Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy).
Invited speakers: Susan Rosser (University of Edinburgh), Eriko Takano (University of Manchester), Neil Williamson (Colorifix), Nicola Patron (Earlham Institute), Claudio Angione (Teesside University), Samantha Bryan (University of Nottingham), Phil Spence (John Innes Centre), Dongda Zhang (University of Manchester).

Call for abstracts: If you would like to give a 10 minutes talk on any of the above themes, please include a title and abstract (maximum 150 words) in the registration form. Deadline for abstract submission is Monday, 26th April 2021, 10 AM and successful speakers will be notified by Wednesday 28th April 2021.
